2 Lux

2Lux is another café-bar in Chania with a really long history. It was popular 25 years ago, then it went out of style for some time. About 15 years ago it re-established itself and became one of the most cool, alternative-yet inviting bars in Chania. Today it’s popularity has waned some, but 2LUX remains a classic choice for the young and a bit alternative crowds in Chania. It’s located off the Old Port of Chania on the far eastern side. 

Reason to Go

I personally go to 2Lux because I’ve been there countless times and have so many memories of the place. Each time I go I am curious to see what has changed since my last visit. 2Lux has almost always had interesting people playing good music. For example, 15 years ago you’d hear some Aphex Twin themes — impressively progressive for a small bar in Chania! One of the things that the owner of 2Lux has been doing is that she has been open to young people’s suggestions. She’s allowed DJs to choose the music they’d like to play.

Both locals and students from the University of Chania frequent the place, and many of the employees are university students, which does influence the atmosphere. A nice detail about 2Lux is its decor which changes according to the season/holiday, something I find really cute. Last but not least, the place has always been considered LGBT friendly.
