Monastiri Restaurant

Monastiri is one of the oldest restaurants in Chania’s Old Harbor. In the old days, it was considered one of the most upscale restaurants in the city. If you decide to visit, you won’t get a feeling that you’re eating in a posh restaurant though. Other restaurants in Chania that have opened more recently have a more sophisticated vibe. Nevertheless, it’s no coincidence that Monastiri has remained one of the locals’ top restaurant choices for decades.

Reason to Go

It’s worth visiting Monastiri for its food, amazing view, and service. The dishes are tasty and you can choose between meat or seafood. They also offer “variety” plates — which are mixed platters of fresh vegetables like tomatoes, dips like tzatziki and meat or seafood.

The restaurant is located in the middle of Chania’s old port, right next to the sea and has an amazing view of the port and the old lighthouse. The restaurant is also a great spot for people watching as you can see passersby who stroll up and down the port. The service is good and the waiters are friendly. The prices might be marginally higher compared to some other restaurants in Chania. This though, in my opinion, is justifiable considering the amazing location and the quality of the food and service.
