To Koutourouki Tavern
To Koutourouki is an adorable taverna-ouzeri that’s open only during the summer. It has a few tables scattered in a narrow picturesque alley, off the Old Port of Chania.
Reason to Go
Koutourouki is an ideal place to visit if you want to share mezethes — small plates of food, like the Spanish tapas. The dishes it offers are very tasty and the majority of them are traditional Cretan dishes with a twist. Also it has a variety of vegetarian dishes. The prices are reasonable and often people don’t go there to get full, but rather to have a bite while drinking some ouzo and chatting with friends. This might be why Koutourouki is popular amongst young people, which is another reason why I would prefer visiting Koutourouki instead of other places. You might see a few tourists but I’d say it’s a place that’s primarily frequented by locals. The last reason I’d visit Koutourouki is the decor and the atmosphere. Though you’re sitting outside, the atmosphere is cosy, as the alley is narrow and the tables are small. I also love the hanging vines and the flower-painted barrels!
