Open air cinemas in Athens: Cine Aegli
Cine Aegli (or “Aegli Zappeiou”) is an open-air cinema in Zappeion which is part of the National Gardens. It’s a 10-minute walk from Syntagma and it’s also very close to the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium.
Reason to go
The word Aegli means “glory” or “prestige” in Greek. Aegli is one of the oldest open-air cinemas in Athens. It projected its first film in 1900, the french movie, “Dix Femmes Pour un Mari.” Besides its long history and classy character, Cine Aegli has very nice surroundings as it’s located in the National Gardens of Athens and Zappeion.

The atmosphere is serene and if you visit during spring or summer, you’ll smell the trees and flowers that are close to the cinema. Its location, in the park, will make you feel as though you’re in the countryside while you’re actually just a breath away from the hustle and bustle of Syntagma Square.
