Blae Papagalos (Blue Parrot)

Blae Papagalos (which means ‘blue parrot’ ) is a café-bar located in the Kerameikos/Metaxourgeio area, next to Avdi square. It has an interesting, romantic-retro design and gathers young crowds – sometimes towards the hipster end of the spectrum (which is common for the area of Metaxourgeio).

Reason to go

They organize events every now and then, like swing and rock & roll dance parties. These events, along with the romantic and vintage decor, can make you feel that you are traveling back in time. When there is no party, you can still enjoy an early drink or a coffee. I like its location, right next to Avdi Square, which reminds me of how Athens used to be, more neighborhood-like with the sounds of children playing nearby. That, combined with the retro vibe the cafe gives off, creates a charming atmosphere!
