Empros Theater

Embros is not a bar. Once a theater located in Psyrri, that closed during the financial crisis, Embros is now operated by an independent collective. This group of people organizes wonderful events, which is remarkable considering its lack of funds. If you’re up for something more original and alternative, this is the place for you. Its name means ‘front’.

Reason to Go

Every now and then, the collective organizes performances and parties. The way it works is that usually artists and performers approach the collective which schedules who is going to perform and when. I have watched theatrical plays there, seen gigs and danced at parties. The vibe is liberating, alternative and original. In the old days, you would pay as much as you wanted and could afford for a beer/wine or raki (Greek traditional spirit) at the small bar run by volunteers, members of the collective. Now you pay something like €1.5 or €2 for a beer.
