To Akri
To Akri is a traditional seafood taverna, located along the coastline of Akti Themistokleous in Piraeus. It is very popular, for good reason, and visiting Akri can be combined with a nice walk on the coast.
Reason to Go
You go mainly for the quality and reasonably priced seafood, around €10-15 per person if you order several dishes to share. The seafood is delicious and fresh – partly due to the fact that they have many customers, so they need to constantly renew their supplies. You should try the stuffed grape leaves (dolmadakia), which is made following a traditional recipe from the island of Kasos, where the owners are from.
The atmosphere is that of a local and typical Greek taverna, filled with families, and groups of friends talking, drinking and laughing while the waiters are running around trying to keep everyone happy. On Sundays, it’s better to arrive earlier than the locals (13:00-13:30) to avoid the crowds and find somewhere to sit if you haven’t made a reservation. The location on the coast is also worth the visit, as it’s really enjoyable to have a stroll next to the sea.
