Cantina Social

Cantina Social is a bar located in the Psyrri/Monastiraki area. The interior is really small so it can easily get crowded late at night. To go to the bar you’ll need to pass through a stoa — an arcade — which leads you to a rather peculiar, spacious yard surrounded by tall buildings. People hang out both in the bar as well as on the tables scattered in the yard. It hosts different Dj sets every weekend and on some weekdays, and is a great place where people go after midnight to dance and mingle.

Reason to go

Different guest DJs play there each week, so you can experience a variety of music/events. Although you could visit Cantina Social in the morning for a coffee or in the late afternoon to enjoy the beautiful yard, the number one reason to go is to continue your night into the early hours. In the small interior space of Cantina people often dance.

There are a few tables placed in the small arcade, the stoa, which is a common setting in Athens, and additional seating is located in the yard. You can still drink in the stoa during the winter if it is not too cold, as they set up heat lamps around the area. At night, the arcade is solely occupied by bar customers, but in the morning, when the sun is shining, the setting is entirely different. You’ll probably see groups of men in their 70s having a Greek coffee while discussing current affairs in length.
