Fouar Cafe
Fouar is an all-day café-bar-restaurant located in the heart of Athens, in the Monastiraki neighborhood. The atmosphere is kind of refined yet approachable. You can go quite early in the evening and enjoy a Thai snack and a glass of wine, then move to the separate bar space (where they usually have some DJ sets on the weekends) if you want your evening to feel more like a night out!
Reason to go
I go there when I want to avoid the city noise and relax in a stylish, yet homey environment. The place is also ideal in the sense that it helps to solve the dilemma of whether to go out for food or for drinks, as it offers both. The space is rather big and you’ll usually find a place to sit whether it’s at the bar or at a table.
There is also a separate room where different DJs play, primarily on the weekends. You could move there if you’d like to have a second drink in a more upbeat location. As different DJs play there all the time, it is difficult to predict what kind of music you’ll hear. On the plus side, you may find a good quality of wine which is something that, unfortunately, you won’t find in many Athenian bars. Prices might be marginally higher compared to other bars, but I think the quality justifies the increase.
